LASER HEMORRHOIDOPLASTY – LESS PAIN, AND RAPID RECOVERY AFTER ONE DAY

LASER HEMORRHOIDOPLASTY – LESS PAIN, AND RAPID RECOVERY AFTER ONE DAY

11/08/2026

Many patients with hemorrhoids put up with a burning sensation, and bleeding during bowel movements for many years due to the concerns of undergoing operation. However, with the development of modern laser technology, treating hemorrhoids has become more comfortable nowadays.

Patients delay treatment due to concerns of undergoing operation

K.H, a 51-year-old Cambodian patient, sought medical care at the American International Hospital (AIH) due to persistent bright red blood per rectum. After examination, Dr. Vo Bich Dai Hao, Specialist Level II, Head of the Department of General Surgery, diagnosed the patient with grade II-III internal hemorrhoids, with prolapsed hemorrhoids that occasionally require manual reduction.

Despite the impact of his symptoms on daily activities and quality of life, Mr.K.H remained hesitant to undergo treatment due to concerns of postoperative pain. After Dr. Vo Bich Dai Hao, Specialist Level II explained the laser hemorrhoids operation – a minimally invasive treatment which does not directly excise the hemorrhoidal tissue, reduces post-procedure pain, and shortens recovery time; Therefore, the patient felt reassured and agreed to undergo the treatments.

Laser hemorrhoid surgery: No excision of hemorrhoidal tissue, treatment is performed from within

Laser hemorrhoid surgery – a modern, minimally invasive treatment technique, reducing the risk of complications, and providing patients with a comfortable experience, according to Dr. Vo Bich Dai Hao, Specialist Level II, Head of the Department of General Surgery at American International Hospital (AIH)

Unlike conventional hemorrhoidectomy, this technique does not directly excise the hemorrhoidal tissue or involve the anal mucosa; Instead, it uses the laser energy to selectively target the hemorrhoidal vascular plexus, causing the hemorrhoids to gradually shrink and retract after the intervention. Due to its accurate targeting, the treatment helps preserve the anatomical structure of the anal canal, maintain its function, reduce pain and bleeding, as well as shorten recovery time.

The laser technique selectively targets the hemorrhoidal vascular plexus without directly excising the hemorrhoids, causing them to gradually shrink and retract after intervention.

After receiving this treatment at AIH, patient K.H recovered well. He could walk independently, resume normal daily activities, and was discharged after a day.

Dr. Hao, Specialist Level II said that, thanks to the minimally invasive nature of laser technology, many eligible patients can even be discharged on the same day after completing postoperative monitoring.

“What many patients worry about most when undergoing hemorrhoids treatment is the postoperative pain. With laser technology, the procedure is gentler, and causes less tissue damage, allowing patients to recover more quickly and return to their normal activities and work sooner”, said Dr. Hao

Hemorrhoid treatment should be individualized

Hemorrhoids are one of the common anorectal conditions, affecting people of different ages and with varying degrees of severity. However, not all cases require surgical intervention.

The choice of treatment depends on the condition severity, clinical symptoms, and its impact on the patient’s quality of life. For cases at the early stage, dietary changes, lifestyle modification, combined with medical treatment can control the symptoms effectively, according to Dr. Vo Bich Dai Hao.

For cases with indication for intervention, laser hemorrhoid surgery is one of the modern, and minimally invasive treatments that offer several advantages. Moreover, maximizing the preservation of the anatomical structures of the anal canal can reduce the risk of postoperative complications, such as pain, anal stenosis, impaired bowel control, or infection.

The advantages of laser hemorrhoid surgery

  • Minimally invasive: Minor invasive site, with no direct incision of the anal sphincter and mucosa, helping to maximize preservation of anatomical structures.

  • Less pain and bleeding: Simultaneously, the laser energy treats hemorrhoids and seals the blood vessels, reducing post-interventional pain and bleeding.

  • Quick recovery: Patients can resume physical activities early, return to nearly normal daily activities within a few days, and have a shorter hospital stay.

  • Reduced risk of complications: Minimizing damage to healthy tissue, helping reduce the risk of anal stenosis, infection, and postoperative anal dysfunction.

  • Better cosmetic outcomes: The minor intervention site is less likely to leave scars, resulting in better cosmetic outcomes after treatment.

Laser hemorrhoid surgery may be considered in the following cases:

  • Grade II and III hemorrhoids and selected cases of Grade IV hemorrhoids

  • Cases involving concomitant internal and external hemorrhoids or strangulated prolapsed hemorrhoids, as prescribed by the physician.

Doctors recommend that patients should seek medical care early if they experience symptoms, such as rectal bleeding, prolapsed hemorrhoids, or persistent pain or itching.

At the General Surgery Department of American International Hospital (AIH), patients are directly examined by a team of physicians, who develop appropriate treatment plans, and provide access to modern surgical techniques, including laser hemorrhoid surgery, as well as postoperative care in accordance with international standards.

Doctors recommend that patients should not underestimate their condition, delay seeking medical care, or self-treat if they experience symptoms, such as rectal bleeding, prolapsed hemorrhoids, or persistent pain or itching. Having early medical examination can help patients in choosing appropriate treatments, managing the condition effectively, and reducing complications.
